The 1st Cavalry Division played a key role in Operation Pegasus, the relief of the besieged Khe Sanh combat base during the Vietnam War. Specifically, the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division conducted air assaults and ground operations to secure key terrain and link up with the Marines defending the base. The operation culminated in the lifting of the siege on April 8, 1968.
