The 187th Infantry Regiment is known as the "Rakkasans," named for the Japanese word for "falling umbrella" after the unit's unique airborne operation in Japan during World War II. Their motto is "Ne Desit Virtus," which translates to "Let Valor Not Fail". The regiment was constituted in 1942 and was the first U.S. unit to parachute onto Japanese soil, earning their nickname. The "Torii" is not directly mentioned in connection with the regiment but refers to a traditional Japanese gate, which might be referenced in relation to their history in Japan.
