During the Gulf War (Desert Storm), the 3rd Armored Division was active and part of the US forces, but the 5th Cavalry Regiment is a separate unit and was not assigned to the 3rd Armored Division at that time; instead, the 5th Cavalry Regiment served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Desert Storm. Therefore, a Desert Storm veteran from the "3rd Bn, 5th Cavalry - 3rd Armored Div" would not exist, as those units were not combined.
