The 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), participated in Operation Desert Storm as part of the "STRIKE" Brigade. They deployed to Saudi Arabia in late 1990 and played a key role in the air assault that cut off enemy communication lines and threatened the Iraqi capital. The battalion returned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in March 1991.
