During Desert Storm, the 3rd Armored Division, nicknamed "Spearhead," served as a critical component of the VII Corps, participating in the largest tank battle in US Army history. In February 1991, under VII Corps, the division advanced into Iraq and Kuwait as part of a successful offensive that culminated in the destruction of Iraqi forces and an armistice. The division's performance highlighted its historical reputation for leading major assaults and its ability to adapt to desert warfare after its long deployment in Germany.
