The 38th Infantry Regiment, one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments, was formed in 1866 following the Civil War. It was initially stationed at Jefferson Barracks, near St. Louis. The 38th Infantry, along with the 41st Infantry, was later consolidated into the 24th Infantry Regiment, with headquarters at Fort Clark, Texas. The 38th Infantry, as part of the larger Buffalo Soldier legacy, participated in frontier duty, the Spanish-American War, and the Philippine War.
