The 24th Infantry Regiment was a "Buffalo Soldier" regiment of Black men, organized in 1869 and serving in the U.S. military until its inactivation in 1951. It fought Native Americans, guarded frontiers, served in the Philippines, and engaged in the Korean War. The regiment was reactivated for operations in the Gulf War and Afghanistan in the 1990s and early 2000s, with its lineage now carried on by the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment.
