The 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division, did not directly participate in Operation Desert Shield. The 2nd Brigade Combat Team (which includes the 1-502nd Infantry) deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2003, 2006, and 2007. They also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
