The 10th Cavalry Regiment was an African-American cavalry unit formed in 1866, one of the original "Buffalo Soldiers" regiments, known for their bravery and service in the Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, and Philippine-American War. The nickname "Buffalo Soldier" was given by Native Americans and eventually applied to all Black U.S. Army regiments from 1866 onward. The 10th Cavalry's history includes distinguished combat service, but also the challenges of discrimination within the military.
