The 10th Cavalry Regiment, known for its service as Buffalo Soldiers, was established in 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. While the regiment served in various locations, Fort Missoula, Montana, was one of the posts where they were stationed. The term "Buffalo Soldiers" originally referred to the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments, but it became a generic term for all Black soldiers who served in the post-Civil War army. These regiments were instrumental in maintaining peace, building infrastructure, and protecting settlers and Native Americans.
